Privacy Policy

Aura (“we”, “us”) is operated by Aura Career Intelligence in Ottawa, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect through getaura.ca and the Aura application, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: contact@getaura.ca.
Information we collect
Early-access signups. When you join the waitlist on getaura.ca, we collect your first and last name, your email address, the interests you select, and anything you choose to write in the “What is most important to you?” box. We only add you to our mailing list after you confirm via the email we send you (double opt-in), and we keep a record of that consent as required by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Newsletter signups. The sign-up form on our blog — on the blog index and at the foot of every article — collects your email address only, and subscribes you to the Aura newsletter. It uses the same double opt-in and keeps the same record of consent. You can also ask for the newsletter using the checkbox on the early-access form.
Sign-in information. When you create an Aura account by signing in with LinkedIn or Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. We do not receive your password, your connections, or the ability to post on your behalf.
Information you add to Aura. Career information you choose to provide in the product — such as your work history, skills, and job preferences — is used to provide Aura’s features to you.
Information attached to your contact record. Alongside your email address, our email provider’s record of you holds the interests you selected, any message you sent us, which of our sign-up forms you used, and — for sign-ups made from a blog article — which article you were reading at the time.
Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting providers log IP addresses and browser information for security and reliability. Our sign-up forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that confirms you are a person rather than an automated script; it receives your IP address and basic browser information for that purpose and does not use tracking cookies.
Cookies and analytics
We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not let any third party use our site to build advertising profiles.
Strictly necessary cookies and storage. Cloudflare, which hosts and protects the site, may set short-lived cookies used solely for security and bot protection. When you answer the cookie banner we store your choice in your browser’s local storage so that we do not ask again; that record expires after 12 months, after which we ask you again. Signing in to the Aura application sets cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in.
Google Analytics — only if you accept. If you choose “Accept” on our cookie banner, we load Google Analytics, which sets cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_…) to measure how the site is used — which pages people visit, and which sign-ups follow. Google processes this as our service provider, outside Canada, and Google’s advertising features are turned off. Nothing is sent to Google and no analytics cookies are set before you accept. If you choose “Reject”, we do not load it, and we delete any Google Analytics cookies already in your browser.
Cloudflare Web Analytics — no cookies. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without setting cookies and without collecting information that identifies you or follows you to other sites. Because it stores nothing in your browser, it runs on every visit, including when you choose “Reject”.

How we use it
- To send you the launch and product updates you signed up for.
- To create and operate your Aura account and provide the product’s features.
- To secure, maintain, and improve the site and product.
- To measure how our site and blog are used, so that we can improve them — only if you accept analytics cookies.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf: Cyberimpact (email delivery, Canada), Cloudflare (site hosting, content delivery, and bot protection), Google (site analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies), our other hosting and infrastructure providers, and the sign-in providers you choose (LinkedIn, Google). Some providers, including Google and Cloudflare, store or process data outside Canada; where they do, it remains subject to contractual safeguards. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from emails at any time via the link in every message.
- Accept or decline analytics cookies when we ask, and change that choice at any time using the “Cookie preferences” link in our footer. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent: it takes effect immediately and removes the analytics cookies already set.
- Access or correct the personal information we hold about you.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent to our handling of your information, subject to legal or contractual limits.
To exercise any of these, email contact@getaura.ca. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Retention
We keep consent records for early access and for the newsletter as long as you remain subscribed (and as required by CASL after you unsubscribe). Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period after you close it. Your cookie-consent choice is stored in your browser for up to 12 months.
Children
Aura is not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the effective date. Material changes will be announced by email to subscribers.
